Four arrested for pitch invasion, selling fake tickets at Kaizer Chiefs vs Sundowns spectacle
Gauteng police said at least four people were arrested for pitch invasion and the selling of fake tickets during the Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns Carling Knockout Cup fixture at the FNB Stadium at the weekend.
Over 80,000 fans came out in their numbers to witness a footballing master class as Sundowns clobbered Chiefs 4-0 at home.
Gauteng provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo said two people were arrested for pitch invasion and two others were arrested for selling alleged fake tickets.
“The two for pitch invasion appeared before Booysens Magistrate's Court today, and the other two will appear tomorrow (on Tuesday) at the same court.
“Two suspects were arrested for pitch invasion, and two other suspects were arrested for selling fake tickets,” said Masondo.
There were unsavoury scenes witnessed at the FNB Stadium as some fans jumped into the pitch unhappy with the refereeing decisions during the match as Sundowns unleashed on Chiefs.
Others in the stands through bottles at stewards and police officers.
The police have warned football fans to desist from criminal behaviour at the stadiums.
“Police would like to warn the spectators that pitch invasion is a criminal offence, and those who continue to commit such crimes will be arrested.
“Police will continue to deploy members of crime intelligence in order to spot those who come to the stadiums with ulterior motives,” said Masondo.
It was unclear how the court proceedings of the two alleged pitch invaders went, but the two accused of selling fake tickets are expected to appear on Tuesday at the Booysens Magistrates Court.
