Man found guilty of stabbing ex-girlfriend outside Gateway Mall over lay-by argument
A man who fatally stabbed his ex-girlfriend outside Gateway Mall has been found guilty of her murder.
Siphamandla Khumalo was convicted in the Durban High Court on Monday for the murder of his ex-girlfriend Nomfundo Msibi over an argument about lay-by.
The incident took place at a taxi rank outside Gateway Mall in August 2024, last year.
The sentencing proceedings are currently taking place in the Durban High Court.
IOL previously reported that Msibi had ended the relationship with the accused and entered a new relationship, as a result, she limited communication with him.

Msibi was contacted by Khumalo's brother to meet at the Gateway Mall to complete a lay-by purchase of clothing for their child.
According to the State, they agreed to meet, and Msibi came with her current partner. They got to the Gateway Mall together, and they got separated.
Msibi met with Khumalo and his brother at Truworths and that is where the dispute over payment and they all left.
Msibi was thereafter stabbed over 20 times.
During arguments for sentencing, Senior State Advocate Krishen Shah said the murder was pre-meditated and one of the worst cases of gender-based violence.
Shah further presented research by the HSRC that showed that of every two women murdered, one is killed by her partner.
"This shows that as a society men have a rather proprietorial attitude towards women."
The trial is currently proceeding.
