Superbike driver killed in Durban horror crash

A BMW superbike driver was killed in a horror crash on Wednesday in Camperdown in Umgungundlovu District, KwaZulu-Natal.

ALS Paramedics spokesperson, Garrith Jamieson, said the accident occurred on the corner of Old Main Road and Wood Circle Road in Camperdown, northwest of Durban. 

"Paramedics arrived on the scene to find carnage as they found that a SUV had collided head on with a superbike. Paramedics found the biker a male in his thirties lying on the roadway and immediately assessed the man. Unfortunately, the biker had sustained major injuries and there was nothing paramedics could do for him, and he was declared deceased on the scene," said Jamieson.

Jamieson said the driver of the SUV did not suffer any physical injuries.

“At this stage, the events leading up to the crash are still unknown; however, police were in attendance and will be investigating further,” added Jamieson.

Early this month, a fight over suspected infidelity eventually turned into a suicide mission for a Durban man, who swerved off the road and crashed his brown Nissan Qashqai.

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) said they were called to the scene of a single car accident involving a husband and wife.

They found the brown Nissan SUV had crashed into the bushes, with the female passenger sustaining injuries to her back and the male driver uninjured.

The 49-year-old woman alleged that her husband had threatened to end both of their lives after a dispute escalated while they were driving from Cottonlands to Mhlasini.

The argument apparently started after she found female clothing in his car.

It is alleged that the husband attempted to crash into a tree, after making those threats, but instead the vehicle ended up striking a boulder, which brought it to a stop, RUSA representatives said.
