SA Weather Service warns of disruptive snow for the Eastern Cape and more rain expected in KZN
The South African Weather Service (Saws) is warning of disruptive snow in the Eastern Cape from Monday.
"Snowfalls are expected over the high lying areas due to a high pressure system ridging from far south of the country, with a southerly to south easterly wind, resulting in cold to very cold and wet conditions over the Chris Hani, Joe Gqabi district municipalities as well as over the Beyers Naude, Blue Crain Route, Matatiele, Uzimvubu and Raymond Mhlaba local municipalities," the forecaster warned.
This is expected to make driving conditions dangerous and difficult. The weather is also expected to disrupt traffic routes, lead to road closures for a shot period and possibly result in loss of crops and livestock.
Meanwhile, Saws says widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected over most parts of KwaZulu-Natal on Monday.
"Rains will be scattered to isolated in the north expect the extreme north-eastern parts of KZN and may be accompanied by strong damaging winds, excessive lightning, large hail and heavy downpours.
This is expected to impact on major roads due to falling trees, impact electricity due to possible power surges as well as be a danger to human life and livestock due to excessive flooding.
Heatwave conditions are expected to persist over central and eastern parts of both North-West province and Free State, northern parts of KZN, Gauteng, Mpumalanga and Limpopo.
And extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over central and eastern parts of the Northern Cape, eastern parts of North West, the Free State, Gauteng, and in places of the Western Bushveld of Limpopo.
